RAISING INSPIRATION

Your participation in this weekend's events sustains the work of both Dharma Ocean and Aviela. Proceeds from these events will further the spiritual and educational outreach mission of these two nonprofits.

The Dharma Ocean Foundation is dedicated to preserving and extending the teachings of the great Buddhist siddha Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and operates under the guidance of Dr. Reggie Ray, long time teacher in the practicing lineage of CTR. The message of Trungpa's dharma and his great vision of Shambhala speaks of human spirituality that exceeds conventional religious boundaries and identities.

Dharma Ocean is happy to partner in this weekend with Malidoma Somé and the nonprofit Aviela. Aviela supports the lives of elders, diviners, healers and shamans in west Africa, and is dedicated to passing on the wisdom of these teachers through Malidoma's work in the States. Funds raised by Aviela go directly to clean water and food for shamans and their families in west Africa. The foundation also materially supports the efforts of the women's guilds of Burkina Faso in their collaborative business of producing and selling shea butter. Aviela's long-term vision is of a healing center in the West, for preserving and extending the spiritual knowledge of the shamans of Africa for the benefit of the world.

Malidoma Patrice Somé, Ph.D.

Before his birth, in 1956, the elders of Malidoma’s village knew that his purpose in coming into this world was to carry the message of indigenous technology and spirituality to the western world, a place where modernity was growing increasingly hungry for a reconnection to ancient wisdom. For more than twenty years, Malidoma Somé has shared the wisdom of his ancestors and tribal elders, awakening a deep knowing in the hearts and bones of those who have recognized in his name, his books, and his voice, the spirit world inviting the renewal of a deep and abiding relationship with all beings on earth. Malidoma is the author of several books, including Ritual: Power, Healing and Community, Of Water and The Spirit, and The Healing Wisdom of Africa. Dr. Somé is an initiated elder in his village in Dano, Burkina Faso, W. Africa. He travels throughout the world bringing a message of hope, healing and reconciliation through the powerful tools of ritual and community building.
